How to reduce pollution – Save earth

Saving our mother earth is a collective responsibility of all of us. In order to save earth, we can take some baby steps to reduce pollution and protect our earth. Tips here are very general and will not cost us much money.

1. Carrying your own cloth bags (non-disposable)

Plastic bags are commonly used everywhere and day by day we are piling up tons of plastics which are non-biodegradable. Using biodegradable bags will help reduce pollution because non-biodegradable bags cannot be decomposed hence remain there for years. There are only few options to dispose them which are not safe either. Burning them will add toxic and poisonous gases to the environment. Landfill sites and visual pollution are the other unsafe options. These plastics may choke sea organisms and suffocate them as they misapprehend plastic as edible food.

2. Control usage of water

As we all know water is a scarce source and we should conserve it to be used it effectively on long term basis. We can take small steps to reduce the usage of water for example when washing dishes while being busy with rubbing utensils do not let the water go into drain unused, turn off the tap and on only once the dishes are ready to be washed. The other example is while taking shower when we are busy putting shampoo in hair or scrubbing the body, let the water flow remained off.

3. Curb the usage of chemicals

Try to buy detergents which contain less harmful chemicals because releasing chemicals like phosphates into water bodies cause the growth of algae on water surface. This algal boom will block the sunlight for the organisms at the bottom of water so they cannot grow and eventually die. Bacteria also feed on them and use oxygen from water causing the death of more organisms. There is a scientific term used for this leaching of chemicals into water and building algae, it is called ‘eutrophication’.

4. Cut down eating meat and be more vegetarian

Science proves that eating vegetables gives us more energy than meat because plants are producers and make own food. For making food they need water and herbivores feed on them. If we also eat animals means there are more organisms consuming water at each trophic level of our food chain. So it saves a lot of water to feed directly on plants rather than the eating meat of herbivores.

5. Charity for saving our environment

Wherever in the world you are, irrespective of the location you can take part in saving mother earth. Taking part in charitable cause is the best way to contribute in saving environment. Charity does not need to be monetarily only, it could be any other way as well like organizing small events to educate people, volunteering yourself to clean up some areas, convince your friends to join you and many more little steps could be taken to reduce pollution.

Remember taking small steps is more crucial than making big plans. These are only few that we have mentioned in this article but there could be even more that definitely bring a drastic impact to reduce pollution and save earth.
